Selected IIT students are invited to the University of Tsukuba for 5–8 weeks, where they will conduct research in affiliated laboratories under faculty supervision.
Students will also attend courses that bridge medical and engineering perspectives and visit the University of Tsukuba Hospital and related facilities to gain first-hand understanding of Japan’s clinical practices, health examination systems, and public health infrastructure.
Through this program, students will experience how medical research, engineering, technology, and social perspectives can work together to address unmet medical needs. The program also encourages students to develop new ideas for healthcare innovation by learning from Japan’s research environment, clinical settings, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the program, students will be able to:
- Gain practical research experience through participation in laboratory projects at the University of Tsukuba.
- Develop an interdisciplinary understanding of how medicine, engineering, and social sciences converge to address healthcare challenges.
- Acquire comparative insights into Japan’s clinical, preventive, and public health systems through hospital and facility visits.
- Foster creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset for proposing innovative solutions to unmet medical needs.
